Tapatalk HD for tablet app runs on Phone

  1. So will this work on a Galaxy Nexus?

It looks very broken on my SGS3 and on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. It looks like it is to big for the screen.

Sorry if phone-related feedback is not wanted. My Rezound has a 720p screen; so, I installed it. :D

If you'd be willing to provide a scaled down version for phone use, that would be appreciated. I too like the landscape view. I am attaching a mockup that might be more useful - hope it helps. The title & post preview are below the avatar, using a smaller font.

I noticed that, when I first log in to a forum, the right-side window would not change when I pressed a menu option in the left-side of the screen. As someone else said, I had to back out of the forum before the menu presses got the action I expected.

When long-pressing on a post, I don't know if I have the "Like" option or the "Thanks" option. I suppose that will be cleared up later.

I'd love to see the HD version available for HD phones!

Very unresponsive forum today (slow) ... saving my post before I lose it. hehe

It should be one app, that scales appropriately to whatever screen is there. That is the way Android is meant to work. This is silly having a separate app for tablets. The regular tapatalk app should display this layout when shown on a larger screen.

You can't? I can agree more!

BUT, devs need to eat, so I think it's reasonable they as us a little more money. I was all agains this separate app, but support isn't cheap, they take their time, and we paid like 2USD for this, I don't remember, but it was cheap. Anyways, their bills keep coming. And the App is really different, better, I think it worth the upgrade, if it's not going to cost that much more.

I think you are missing the point. If they truly are working on updating tapatalk to ICS standards, the codebase behind the scenes would be the same for phones vs tablets. It's just the UI layout is different. Android makes it super easy to show different layouts of the same content on different screens. A regular version and HD version of apps do not belong in Android's Play Store. If money is the concern, raise the price a dollar.

I told I agree, and then said that charging for an upgrade would'nt be all that bad, just that.

Ah ok. Yeah, I would gladly pay for an upgrade done right.

Close the app (swipe away from recents) and open it again.

On galaxy nexus, layout is awful. I know you are working on it. Also, tried to go to my subscriptions and it wouldn't load. No crashes yet.

Could you sent us a screenshot from your Nexus? I forgot mine at home and I'm crazy to see how it's going to look on it. If you would, please?

Ok guys, I found what I was looking for. Check out this link: http://developer.android.com/distribute/googleplay/quality/tablet.html It confirms what I have been trying to say.

    10. Follow best practices for publishing in Google Play
Publish your app as a single APK for all screen sizes (handsets and tablets), with a single Google Play listing:
Easier for users to find your app from search, browsing, or promotions
Easier for users to restore your app automatically if they get a new device.
Your ratings and download stats are consolidated across all devices.
Publishing a tablet app in a second listing can dilute ratings for your brand.

If Tapatalk continues with keeping the tablet UI in a separate app, they are explicitly going against the recommendations of Google and the way Android is meant to be developed for. I know this "Tapatalk HD" app isn't published yet, but I get the feeling they intend on publishing it as a separate app because of the "HD" in the name. It's not too late to do it right guys...

That's merely a suggestion, it will only work when they prevent dupes on the store, dupes like what's going to happen with Tapatalk, what kinda happened to Swiftkey. If they dont'do that, prevent it for real, like not letting developers post it, it wont happen. Anyways, I think that this HD stuff should be sold as an In App purchase upgrade. That way who already paid for the App would pay a reasonable price, and who didn't paid for the regular app, would pay for the HD, and then they should let only one on the Play Store. Or something like that. Don't know if its practical, but that's a decent (good) idea ;)

You can have 1 app that allows for pre ICS layout and also ics style and also tablet and phone mode... All in one app.

You're all missing the point we are testing and giving feedback on how the app is designed for tablets only. Developers know what android says about development guidelines and I agree with an in app purchase to unlock HD mode but, I'm not going to hound the same thing over and over. Its their app and they are being kind enough to let us test it for TABLETS...

They can do what they want its their app and the beauty of android, they heard you the first time the guidelines were brought up. Now let's get back to what's relevant, testing and reporting ON TABLETS.

I think the devolopers need to have the regular tapatalk bug free or answer the posts and questions in an timely manner, especially when the issues are back up with pictures Before working on an HD app , and thus have 2 apps that are buggy

Yeah this is not App Store, this is Android!
