Thanks for the quick and responsive reply! I've given the issue some thought, and I currently use an app called Instapaper that sets up a bookmark in Safari (I believe some other apps call it a "bookmarklet"). Upon selecting this "bookmark" what it really does is NOT take me to a bookmarked page, but instead sends the current page to the Instapaper app where it is saved and enables offline viewing later. Something similar to this could be enabled to open in Tapatalk. Perhaps something like this would be more agreeable to forum owners if they are resistant to the earlier proposition. Of course, I see how this could be very difficult to implement, but it's just another idea to gain the userbase I represent.

    Tapatalk must launch from browser

I totally agree with the original poster, Tapatalk must launch from a browser window. I found this very thread because of my frustration with searching on Google, only to have the nag window pop up. However since I own Tapatalk, and there is no way to launch, I am not seeing the point. I am replying to this thread on my new 10 inch Android Honeycomb (3.1) tablet. While browsing is much better, the nag screens are terrible. I am sure a lot of people will be wanting to turn off the nag. But full integration would turn this into a great experience.

This is an Android thread and Android CAN do this. For Twitter, Evernote and other apps I get a pop up asking me which application I want to use to open the link. It's core Android functionality and would only take a few lines of javascript in tapatalkdetect.js to implement.

Just wanted to say that I found this thread after I installed Tapatalk and wondered why it didn't launch when I visited forums in my browser. Since I would always get the bloody pop-up, I fully expected it would stop and launch the app instead once I had it installed.

As the others have said, it's not particularly useful for me without this. Can't the Javascript launch a particular intent or URL scheme that the app can then handle?

Too difficult for iPhone, but basic functionality for a modern OS

I came to this site because I just can't tolerate the odious popup message that ask me to learn more about an application that I already purchased. I even got this popup after click on the registration message to this website!!!

My use-case is the same as many of the posters here. I use Google when searching for answers, and many of those answers are in forums enabled (or infected, depending on how do you see it) by Tapatalk.

This thread has more than one year and we, the Android users that started it have not received a solution to this simple problem. My only explanation is that the authors are scratching their heads on how to perform this functionality on a restricted-by-design, architecturally-old OS like iOS. However, this is basic functionality on open, modern OS like Android. I'm assuming that you are the real authors of the Android version of Tapatalk for Android, and got to learn about Android in order to write it (if you subcontracted the development of this application, then it would be understandable that you dont know how to implement it).

I ask you to please, stop ignoring the Android users just because you cannot do this in iOS.

Another vote for this being a necessary feature. I will not purchase Tapatalk for my Transformer tablet unless this feature is implemented. If I had purchased the app with the idea that it would autolaunch (as previous posters have), or at least disable the popups, I would be infuriated. As it is, I am only highly irritated.

Can we make this thread a sticky?

Bump for this. I can't beloved you guys, who are generally so good, are stumbling around to implement basic Android behaviour.

Hi. I just purchased tapatalk and wanted to voice my frustration with this issue. App is completely worthless to me now and i'm past refund period. Please fix this problem and the app would be extremely useful.

please add both of these functions. The browser popup that tells you about the tapatalk app is completely misleading. I found this thread by googling this problem and then had to spend a few more minutes trying to find it in tapatalk.

Hmm..I accidentally posted this is as a request and then saw this. All browser apps have the option to show up when link is clicked. Why not tapatalk?

    standard Android feature...

Plenty of other apps, YouTube for example, do that just fine. You have a list of forums in tapatalk, just offer tapatalk as a default application for those sites. That way each time we browse to a new forum that's tapatalk compatible, we can choose either tapatalk or our browser as the default app. I swear this isn't difficult and that you are deliberately crippling the Android app while you wait for apple to catch up.

I will only but tapatalk when I know this is fixed. From what I can tell, its a pretty useless app at the moment.

It's a pretty useful app for me. I'm always on the move, and without this app, I couldn't dream of involving in discussions with this frequency.

But this is definitely a must have feature. It isn't so hard. All you need is to register the Tapatalk activity with urls, so that Tapatalk shows up in the 'Open with' app list where all web browsers open up in the context menu. And Tapatalk ought to open up links to other Tapatalk enabled forums within itself. As of now, if I paste a link to a forum thread in xda, here it still opens up in the web browser, not in TaPatalk. That ought to be corrected.

But don't be disheartened, guys. Tapatalk's definitely worth more than the couple of dollars you collect for the app. But there's definitely room for a lot of improvement.

Ups, I posted the following in an old thread (http://tapatalk.com/forum/threads/url-protocol-on-iphone.6338/), but *this* seems to be the right (and current) thread for it:

This will be included in our upcoming 2.0 release for Android, still not perfect but we are getting there.

Nice for android users^^ what's about iOS? (Yeah, I know - wrong thread)

agree 10,000% with the OP and others that have chimed in here.

    1) I bought the app just because it bitched at me so much. If that was the company's intention, then hooray, you annoyed money out of me. I expected basic functionality of that popup to change to then be "hey, we have your money already, here, let me open this page for you in the app".

    2) I have launched the app once or twice "cold", but was so put off by the obtuse navigation to what I want to view, I just closed/uninstalled it. I usually end up on forums via google in a browser, and want to contribute... I have accounts on the ones I tend to click in my search results, but that god damned popup is so annoying, and serves absolutely NO purpose. It's like swatting a pesky fly out of the way so you can read the forum. Again, if the intent was to annoy, you've succeeded swimmingly.

    3) in the app itself, finding a subforum should be as simple as pasting a URL, and adding whatever forum (XDA > Device XYZ > ICS Roms > Root & Development > Blah Blah Yet another Subforum) the thread exists in as a favorite. I've found no way to do this simply, but again, I'm just put off by the app as it stands now.

At any rate, you have my money. Maybe when it works as it should I'll begin to use it and sing it's praises, but I feel cheated at this point.
