I heard that some of you really annoyed by the "mirco-phone" icon appearing on all the sub-forums on iPhone (or Android for that matter)! Now it is your chance to customize them -You can specify unique icons for EACH forums. Below is the instruction:

You will notice an empty directory /mobiquo/forum_icons/ All you need to do is to place an icon 30x30 in PNG format in this directory. with your forum id and append with ".png" extension. E.g. your forum with id 3, your icon name should be "3.png" under the forum_icons directory.

You can also add an image named as "default.png" in the same directory, it will automatically replaces all the microphone icons.

Color icons turn out really well - and make sure you max. out the 30x30 pixel as the cell height is 54px so there is enough white space to make it nice.

Also iPhone will resize the image automatically to best fit it. FYI.

I am curious, where did you get your icons?

Ok now I'm having a little issue getting my icons to show up. Just for trials I used my forum icon and saved it as just a default for now to make sure all works well. So I saved the file as default.png 30x30 and uploaded it to mobiquo/forum_icons/ and it's not showing on my iPhone.

Now I'm not sure if it's something that I did wrong or what but would appreicate some help on this issue if possible please.

Once this issue is resolved I also have a question of if I wanted to change each forum to a different icon like in the demo picture. How would I also go about that cause I'm not fully understanding what to name the files and where as well. Any help would be great. Thank you in advance!

    Hi,

Assuming you are using vBulletin forum system..

Here are two things to check:

    1) Make sure your Tapatalk vBulletin Plugin is up-to-date (v.1.0.2 as of today)
    2) in iPhone, tap the "Refresh" icon at the upper right corner if it doesn't show. Or logoff and access it as guest to see if you can see the icons.

For your second question. You need to find out your sub-forum ID in the vBulletin system (I know it is lame but come on we will improve it later on). You can find out the forum id usually by the URL. For example this forum URL is http://www.tapatalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=3 and hence the forum ID is "3", and "3.png" is the image file name.

Let me know if you still have any question.

If you are phpBB forum owner - this feature is not necessary at all - because Tapatalk download the forum icons as you specified in your forum system and will resize it to fit into the iPhone screen. One unique feature over vBulletin in this case.

I am experiencing some strange things with the icons.

    I have followed your instructions:
I managed to change the default.png icon, then I changed one of the icons (3.png) of my category with success! But the rest of the icons won't load on my iphone..

I refreshed it multiple times, logged on and off, restarted the tapatalk aplication but still I can see only 1 icon changed..

Thanks for the update, my default icon fits my forum better than a mic :p

My logo i 90x90 as you suggested, yet the above posts want 30x30.

What is the correct icon size?

Re: Customizing your sub-forum icons on iPhone

90x90 is the size of the forum icon when you first start up Tapatalk and select the forum you want to go to.

30x30 is the size of the individual forums icons inside your own forum.

I have about 43 different icons on my site. Search PestGaming to see them all to get the idea.

Ok, first yes I have vBulletin.

Second, just to make sure that there was no confusion or anything with my upload or what have you. I deleted TapaTalk Plugin of Server. Redownloaded the v1.0.2 and uploaded that back to my server. Deleted the app off my iPhone and reinstalled the app back on the phone. When opened TapaTalk I saw my forum again with the mic pictures again. So I knew have fresh install of everything.

    Then......

Went ahead and just decided to create the image as one of my subforums to see if that would work. So for example I renames the file to 31.png and uploaded that. When I went into TapaTalk app there was all the mic icons but on the one forum that is =31 it was blank again but there was still mic pictures on all the rest of the forums so I know it's loading right. Then I deleted the 31.png of my server and the mic picture came back for that sub-forum.

So this is where we are and still no icons yet, so I'm scratching my head on this. More help on this would be great and if you need anymore info please let me know. Thanks in advance.

What is the forum you are working on? And are you sure your image is in PNG format? not JPG? it only support PNG image format...
  15. HeWatchesOverUs New Member

The forum that I'm working on is www.christianforumcafe.com , as for if it's a png? Yes, I have checked that like 10 times, plus to just to make sure an 11th time, I just now deleted the file again, and recreated a new icon: 30x30 and it's called "default.png" uploaded it and we are back to square one!

    Hi,

I checked your forum. In fact, I can get the url of the default icon. But it looks a wrong url.

    http://www.christianforumcafe.com/forum/mobiquo/forum_icons/default.png

there is one more 'forum' in the url.

Can you please check the setting of 'Forum URL' in you admincp?
    Then please try again.

Let me know if it still can not work.

    Thanks,
    Yao

Your URL that you posted is incorrect. The correct URL that the deafult.png is listed is:

    http://www.christianforumcafe.com/mobiquo/forum_icons/default.png

But I do appreicate your response in trying to help out. I believe that Winter has found an issue and is helping to resolve it. Once again thank you

In fact I stand corrected in what was stated. I went into my AdminCP just to check anyways and it was showing a /forum which not sure why I put that there. Most of been when I first started my forum I put it there. So I removed it and icon is now appearing in TapaTalk. AWESOME JOB!

I would like to say thank you for helping me resolve this issue since it was making me crazy...lol......but the link that I stated is where the image file is located. Bottom line, it's resolved and I'm happy!

Thank you all for all your help on this issue. Glad to see everyone come together to help resolve a customers issue. Will definately recommend TapaTalk to others!! :D
